Division Responsibilities
The Training Division of the Police Department is responsible for officer and dispatcher training. Officers receive a mandated minimum 40 hours of in-service training every two years covering a variety of topics including, but not limited to, de-escalation, use of force, basic crime scene investigation, defensive tactics, police vehicle operations, report writing, interview and interrogation and critical incident response. The training officer also recruits new employees, conducts background investigations for all police applicants and supervises the field training officer program.
The training division also insures department compliance with the 170 accreditation standards promulgated by the Texas Police Chief’s Association. View additional information for the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officers Standards and Education.
