Measles Cases Information
The City of Plainview, in coordination with the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) and regional health authorities, is actively monitoring and responding to a measles outbreak in Public Health Region 1, at this time limited to the counties of Gaines, Lynn, Terry, Yoakum and Lubbock. All necessary steps are being taken by health officials to contain the spread.
Health officials continue to conduct case investigations, contact tracing, and provide necessary medical guidance to those affected.
Measles is a highly contagious respiratory illness spread by contact with an infected person through coughing and sneezing. People who are not immune or vaccinated have a very high probability of infection if they come in contact with another infected individual.
To prevent further transmission, regional health departments have implemented several key measures:
- Expanded Vaccination Clinics: Vaccination clinics are operating in Lubbock and Seminole to provide the MMR vaccine, a proven and effective protection against measles.
- Public Awareness and Communication: Schools, daycare centers, and healthcare providers have been provided with guidance on symptoms, prevention, and next steps for unvaccinated individuals.
- Continued Surveillance and Monitoring: Experts are working to track potential exposures and coordinate response efforts across public health jurisdictions.
The Plainview-Hale County Health Department encourages residents to review their vaccination records and ensure that they are up to date on vaccinations. For assistance with vaccination records, call the Plainview-Hale County Health Department or your primary care provider. The Plainview-Hale County Health Department has MMR vaccines available through the TVFC program for children who meet eligibility criteria.
