The Public Works Department has a staff of three people, and various functions of this department include:
Building information for a new geographic information system (GIS) for the City of Plainview
Developing and maintaining plans and drawings of existing infrastructure
Developing Capital Improvement Programs to expand and maintain existing infrastructure
Maintaining files, information, and public assistance for the National Flood Insurance Program
Providing cost estimates to citizens inquiring about infrastructure expansion
Reviewing and approving plats for land development
Supervising and coordinating the activities of other public works sections, including streets, parks, water production, water and sewer pipeline maintenance, solid waste, wastewater treatment, and the service center
