Several key dates for City Council elections are right around the corner.
Beginning on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, candidates interested in filing for a place on the ballot may pick up a candidate packet from the Office of the City Secretary, located at City Hall, 202 W. 5th Street.
The first official filing date for a place on the ballot will be Wednesday, January 14, 2026. The application deadline is Friday, February 13, 2026, at 5:00 p.m.
Slated for election is four Council districts: one, two, three, and four. Mayor and City Council members serve a four-year term of office and are eligible to serve two terms (eight years). Maps with the specific area of the district are available on the City’s website, www.plainviewtx.org.
To be eligible to run for City Council, a person must be a United States citizen; be 18 years of age or older on the first day of the term to be filled at the election; have not been determined by final judgment of a court exercising probate jurisdiction to be totally mentally incapacitated or partially mentally incapacitated without the right to vote; have not been finally convicted of a felony; shall have resided continuously in the state for 12 months; shall have resided within the district for at least 6 months; and is a registered voter in the district from which office they wish to run.
Important dates to note include:
January 14, 2026 – First day to file for a place on the ballot
February 13, 2026 – Last day to file for a place on the ballot
April 20, 2026 – First day of early voting
April 28, 2026 – Last day of early voting
May 2, 2026 – Election Day
