The City of Plainview Recycling Program received a grant from the South Plains Solid Waste Regional Grant Program to purchase an additional 108 blue dumpsters for the Community Recycling Program.
The additional dumpsters will expand the alley-side recycling access in the Wayland, Edgemere and Thunderbird areas of town, increasing the amount of material diverted from the landfill and providing more opportunities for our residential areas to have access to convenient recycling opportunities.
Landfill staff are scheduled to have them all distributed by the end of November.
The cost of the new dumpsters is $73,215.00. The City will be reimbursed $54,911.25 (75%) of the total cost of the project; the remaining City funds will be allocated through the Solid Waste Improvement Fund.
Aluminum cans, paper, cardboard and plastic may be recycled. New stickers will be placed on all blue dumpsters to assist residents with the list of recyclable items.
