Mission:
The Main Street Program will utilize public and private efforts to encourage investment; enhance cultural diversity; preserve the architectural integrity of historic downtown; develop tourism; and promote businesses.
The Downtown Plainview Main Street Program efforts include:
- Strengthening businesses in the Historic Business District and recruiting new ones
- Preserving and restoring historic buildings
- Molding the Historic Business District into a destination for shopping, entertainment, and leisure
- Defining the Plainview Main Street niche in the shopping and tourism market
- Providing a vibrant events venue
Texas was one of the first states to incorporate a Main Street program and Plainview was one of the first five Main Street cities in Texas in 1981. Plainview joins more than 85 Main Street cities in Texas that work to promote and revitalize downtown.
