To meet their particular needs, employees may purchase supplemental insurance coverage through payroll deduction, including:
- Intensive care
- Life Insurance
- Long-term care
- Short-term disability
- Specified event
The city provides a $10,000 death benefit policy to each employee. That benefit is offered free of charge to employees.
Supplemental Life Insurance
Employees may purchase additional life insurance coverage, at the employee’s cost, through payroll deduction. Policies are underwritten by Fort Dearborn Life Insurance. During initial enrollment, no medical underwriting or physicals are required as part of the guaranteed issue. Once purchased, policies are fully portable and can be kept a lifetime.
