Staff will be closing off the two-inch line on the east side of the street and diverting the water to the eight-inch line on the west side of the street.
Work began Wednesday, January 8th at the corner of Broadway Street and 8th Street and will continue south. Holes (white squares on the map) will be dug along the west side of the street in parking areas to access the lines. Each area will be blocked for several days and reopened when the work is completed. The east side of the block will see work in the sidewalk area (blue stars on the map) and small holes in the parking area.
No streets are scheduled to be blocked and no water or electricity is anticipated to be disrupted.
“The water line on the east side of the street is very old and we had several issues with leaks,” says Paul Kite, Assistant Director of Water Utilities. “The City felt it was prudent to make these repairs before construction for the Downtown Streetscape Plan begins.”
The City encourages everyone to be aware of employees working in these areas for the next couple of weeks and to be aware that parking in the area may be disrupted for a short time. For more information or questions, contact the Main Street Office at 296.1119.
