The election will be held Saturday, May 2nd.
The Mayor position and Districts Five, Six and Seven are slated for election. The Mayor and City Councilmembers serve a four-year term of office and are eligible to serve two consecutive terms (eight years).
District Five area includes the northwest corner of the City, District Six covers the middle section of the City and District Seven covers the northeast area of the City. Maps with the specific area of the district are available on the website.
To be eligible to run for City Council, a person must be a United States citizen; be 18 years of age or older on the first day of the term to be filled at the election; have not been determined by final judgment of a court exercising probate jurisdiction to be total mentally incapacitated or partially mentally incapacitated without the right to vote; have not been finally convicted of a felony; shall have resided continuously in the state for 12 months and shall have resided within the district from which said councilmember is to be elected for at least 6 months and be registered to vote in the territory from which the office is elected.
Important dates to note include:January 3rd – Candidate packets available
January 15th – First day to file for a place on the ballot
February 14th – Last day to file for a place on the ballot
April 20th – First day of early voting
April 28th – Last day of early voting
May 2nd – Election Day
